At the intersection of Zinonos Kitieos Street and Zinonos Pierides Street (he was the city’s first Cypriot mayor, banker, and collector of antiquities) is the first multi-story house in Larnaca.
Four floors! And a penthouse with a solarium! It was once a revolution in the local savoir vivre (see the story of Eftaparon House in Limassol in the “Big City Lights” route).
This revolutionary house is named “Kition” after the ancient city-state that was in what is now Larnaca.
The building’s open, dynamic facade with concrete suncatchers on the top floor is reminiscent of the famous apartment block on Megaron Mitsi Street in Nicosia by Polis Michaelides. Unfortunately, the architects’ names have not been identified yet, which is a common problem in Cyprus.
From this crossroads, you can see a view into the concrete canyon — the backs of the first line of hotels.
In the middle of the wasteland, there is a small chapel. Let’s walk to it.
